Community rallies behind family of alleged hit-and-run victim Jatinder Brar

More than $85,000 has been raised in two days to help support the family of a young truck driver who was killed in an alleged high-speed hit-and-run crash in Adelaide's north-east.
Friends of Jatinder Brar, who was killed inSalisbury South on Friday, have rallied to support his mother and sister.
Mr Brar, 25, was working as a Woolworths truck driver when he was allegedly hit by a stolen white Ford Territory which had been travelling at high speed and was engaged in a short police pursuit about 11:45am.
SA Police said the chase was terminated "in a matter of seconds".
Friends of Mr Brar started an online fundraiser following the death to help his grieving family, who live in India, and to assist with repatriating his body back to his home state of Punjab.
The post stated that Mr Brar was the "only person earning bread and butter for his family".
"His father died [a] few years back and he was [the] only hope for his mother and sister," it read.
"We cannot bring him back, but we can financially support his mother and sister back in India and also have to take his body back to home."
More than 2,000 people donated a total of $85,064 — surpassing the $80,000 his friends had hoped to raise.
A 24-year-old woman is expected to appear in the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court this afternoon, charged with dangerous driving causing death and leaving the scene of an accident.
Following the crash, SA Police Acting Deputy Commissioner Noel Bamford said officers first spotted the stolen car about 11:45am on Friday.
"The Ford Territory was travelling at high speed. The CIB car saw it and realised that [there] was just no hope of catching it so they stopped and let it go," Deputy Commissioner Bamford said.
Police received reports of the crash, which happened about 200 metres west of the intersection of Kings Road and Cross Keys Road, 10 minutes later.
Mr Brar died at the scene.
"It's a very sad and tragic loss, and it was totally unnecessary," Mr Bamford said.
The fatal crash happened near to the site where Anglicare nurse Lucy Paveley died in a horrific crash after a teenager stole a car and was travelling at high speed in 2017.
Mr Brar's death takes the state's road toll to two, compared to zero at the same time last year.
